Elise gained weight and then wheezed

Well it all started two weeks ago with a cough. Sadie got sick with a horrible cough around Christmas. Elise started to show signs of having a cold. But to be fair, she has been coughing and sniffling for months. The doctors said it is a side effect of her reflux since the formula goes up and irritates the nasal lining. Anywho we took both girls in to the doctor two weeks ago tomorrow. Sadie had two ear infections, the first since her tubes, and Elise just had a cold. We were able to give Sadie some benedryl to help her sleep. Well by Friday Elise was going downhill. She was starting to wheeze from her coughing and congestion. On Saturday afternoon she started running a fever and by Saturday night the wheeze was worse. Called the doctor and she said take her to childrens. So 10pm on Saturday night we were at Childrens Memorial for our first ER visit. Her oxygen levels were good at 95 (98 is normal) so they released us but not before they suctioned our her left nostril. They couldn't get into her right as it was too swollen. They told me if she gets to 60 breaths a minute, her nails or mouth turns bluish or she is struggling to breathe to bring back but otherwise go to our doctor on Monday. Well Monday the doctor we were supposed to see was sick so they tried to cancel our appt but I said no. Finally we got in to a doctor in their other office. Elise's oxygen was 92 when we got there. They did a breathing treatment and retook it a few minutes later and it was 95 again. Her breathing was getting worse at 52 breaths a minute but still not bad enough for a hospital visit. the doctor gave us a steroid and an inhalor to do at home every four hours.

The inhaler makes her crazy; its like caffeine in a tube but all in all the steroid, the inhaler and the breathing treatments worked. At her next doctor visit on Wednesday she was at 97 oxygen level. however at this appt she developed an ear infection. Great. Here we go with the antibiotic. The poor thing is not even 6 months old and she has been on more medicines then Sadie!

Saturday's appt was the last checkup for a bit and she is doing much better. The doctor only heard a bit of a wheezing on one breath (hooray) and the ear infection was cleared up. Still a little fluid in her ear.

in the middle of all this though we did get her weighed to check on her eating. At 5.5 months, she was 15lbs 15.5oz :) That puts her in the 75%ile. Let's just hope after this past week of not eating very much that she is still in the 75%ile.

Weren't they concerned about Elise's weight last I heard? That was Mel's weight at 10 months, so I'd say she's doing pretty well now :) I'm glad to hear she's starting to feel better - poor peanut (and poor mom!)
Here's to a healthier 2010 than it's started out to be!

yes. Elise wasn't gaining as much weight as she should but is now officially good. She just sprouted too and is super long and skinny now. the complete opposite of Sadie!
